TALKING WITH... ALEXANDRA PODKOLZINA
August, 2003 continued

Q: What tournament did you have the most fun at?
A: "I would say the Claycourts in Memphis last year. I stayed with the best family. We still keep in touch. It was so much fun and one of my best friends was also playing there."

Q: What tournament haven't you played yet that you would like to?
A: "Wimbledon. I've never, ever tried to play on grass."

Q: Where do you train?
A: "I train at the Berkeley Tennis Club with Todd Rich."

Q: Is there anything else you like to do in your spare time?
A: "I'm big on reading. It's very conrny, but yes I'm very big on reading. And spending time with my friends and seeing movies. Reading is probably the best thing that I do."

Q: I heard a lot of people calling you Sasha. Where does that come from?
A: "I was named after my father. In Russia, Alexander shortens to 'Sasha.' It's like Bill from William. It's a boy's name, but no one knows that here! I always go by 'Sasha."
