TALKING WITH... CATHERINE NEWMAN
August, 2004 continued

Q: Well, if you win this (the Girls 16 National Hardcourts) you get a wildcard into the Junior Open.
A: "I don't know if I will win."

Q: What tournament are you playing after this?
A: "I have to take a break. Then, if I can the Junior US Open. I don't really know my next tournament after that."

Q: Where do you train?
A: "My coach is head pro at a local club. I just hit with him. His name is Tom Herb."

Q: What club?
A: "Lawndale in Greensboro."

Q: Have you been there since you started playing?
A: "Actually, my coach started out at Sherwood when I was nine. That's when I first started playing. Then a job opened up at Lawndale and he switched. So I've only played there about two years, but I've been with the same coach since the beginning."

Q: What else do you like to do in your spare time?
A: "I play soccer. I play high school soccer and club soccer. I like to hang out with friends, go out, have fun."

Q: Are you thinking about college?
A: "Not really. Not yet. I'm looking forward to it, but I haven't really thought about where I want to go. I definitely want to play college tennis."

Q: Have you thought about turning pro?
A: "Definitely not!"
