2009 CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS
May 7-9 at Natomas Racquet Club in Sacramento, California

The change in locale to rainy Northern California weather didn't hurt the Palm Desert based College of the Desert teams as the captured the 2009 California Community College men's team, women's team and men's singles titles.

Francisco Stuardo was the star at the Natomas Racquet Club in Sacramento. The College of the Desert player was on the winning team before taking the singles crown and making it to the doubles semifinals with partner Cesar Uday. The team competition went easy for the COD men as they took lucky No. 13 over Fresno, 5-1. It was a tougher run in singles for Stuardo, who was the underdog as the #3 player on his team, but he only lost one set along the way to taking out Ventura College's #1 Zach Taylor in a straight set final. In the men's doubles semi, Stuardo & Uday lost to Yair Banuelos & Daniel Coelho. The Riverside duo later dropped the final to Hank Bessinger & Joao Noguiera of Fresno.

The women's titles were spread out a bit more and tighter contests. The College of the Desert women squeaked by Sierra, 5-4. Singles was played first and the team score was tied at 3-3 heading into the doubles. Each team took a will for the 4-4 score and it came down to Alexandre Farrar & Stephanie Tomita bringing it home for COD. It capped off an undefeated season for the College of the Desert women.

Ashley Litchfield of Ventura held her top seeding to take the women's singles trophy, with straight set domination the whole way. The only major challenge came in the final, when Cerritos' Samantha Nadres pushed her to a tiebreaker in the first set. Palomar's Shoko Hachiya & Arina Polovnikova won the doubles after overcoming a three-set (with two breakers) challenge from the Orange Coast team of Brittany Bass & Melissa Boyer.
