Sunday, April 9, 2006-Day One

I'm told it hasn't rained here in six weeks, but the rain was following me today as I tried to catch the matches at the USTA National Spring Championships.

Tournament Directors Mark & Ivan Baron rallied the troops from the Delray Tennis Center for a late afternoon re-start (as no two others can do -- whether it's the 12 and unders or the ATP championships, this father-son duo gives organization a new name). Since I know all too well that in Florida it can rain on one side of the street and not the other, I thought I would check out the other sites to see if they would be able to start up sooner. Unfortunately, the rain followed me through Delray Beach and Boca Raton until the matches were finally called for the day.

Only about half of the singles matches (and none of the doubles) were played today. Tomorrow we will all get an early start to finish up the first round and see what this very talented young group has to show.
