2002 US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

At The Open With Marcia Frost...

Sunday, September 1st-Junior Championships Day One
For the first time since 1988, all Junior Championships matches have been cancelled for today. The Summer of 2002 had been hot and dry in New York until the start of the US Open. The tournament has been plagued by wet weather. With no end in site, all of today's junior matches were postponed until tomorrow even though the weather forecast is not much better.

This year's junior events feature top players from around the world as well as 39 Americans in the singles draws alone. The boys are led by top seeds Richard Gasquet and Robin Soderling, while the girls feature Ally Baker and Barbora Strycova. Conspicously absent from the Junior Championships is Ashley Harkleroad, who has decided not to play the event. She is still competing in the main draw doubles and this will be the first junior grand slam she has not played in this decade.

Until Tomorrow...
