Present and past college players are making their marks on the USTA Futures Circuit. Nick Rainey, a former All-American from Southern California, has won three doubles titles with Illinois' Sophomore Brian Wilson. Meanwhile, Brian's teammates, NCAA doubles champions Amer Delic and Michael Calkins, reached the doubles finals of the event at Sunnyvale, California. The women's NCAA doubles champions, Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra took the trophy at the Satellite at Edmond, Oklahoma.

Illinois Head Coach Craig Tiley had a lot of celebrating to do at Wimbledon this year. It was Coach Tiley who coached George Bastl to his major upset over Pete Sampras.

NCAA finalist and outstanding Florida player Jessica Lehnhoff won her first professional singles title at the Corina Morariu Pro Tennis Classic. She also won the doubles with Julie Rotondi.

The Duke women's team has teamed up with the V Foundation to raise money for cancer research. The new program, Help Cancer Meet Its Match, invites fans and friends of the tennis team to make a pledge for every set the team will win over the course of the 2002-03 season. The Blue Devils won 450 sets last season.

Coaching Changes... Southern California has chosen former Pepperdine Coach Peter Smith to take over the NCAA champion men's team. Adam Steinberg, former coach at Alabama will now take over the Pepperdine team... Dave Borelli, a former women's coach at Southern California, is now taking over the women's team at TCU... The only four-time All-American at Texas A&M, Shuon Madden, has been named assistant coach for the men's team there.

Northern Iowa announced that it is reinstating its women's swimming and tennis programs. The decision was made in the face of a threatened lawsuit over Title IX, the federal law requiring schools to provide equal opportunities for male and female athletes.
