Vilmarie Castellvi, a Junior at Tennessee, took the title at the Rockingham Heritage Bank/USTA Women's Professional Circuit Tournament. Vilmarie defeated Varvara Lepchenko, 6-2,6-0, for her first professional championship.

Cousins Prakash and Stephen Amritraj upset former college standouts George Bastl and Sandon Stolle at the Mercedes-Benz Cup. Prakash plays for the NCAA winning Southern California Trojans and Stephen will be playing for Duke starting this Fall.

Gigi Fernandez, a former pro star with doubles titles that include six consecutive Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold Medal, has taken over as the new coach of South Florida's women's team. In other coaching changes this Summer: Goncalo Marques is the new women's coach at Methodist; Ken Birkett is the new men's coach at Franklin & Marshall; Randy Rowley is the new women's coach at Southern Mississippi; Jon Choboy moves from Brown to the North Carolina men's team; Ross Brown moves from Evansville to the men's team at Southern Indiana; Billy Pate is the new men's coach at Alabama; Joey Scrivano moves from South Alabama to the women's team at Baylor; Megan Payne-Dorny is the new women's coach at Utah; Chrissy Short is the new women's coach at Albany; Marty Perry is the new coach of men and women at Colgate; and Bob Dallis moved from Colgate to the women's team at Dartmouth.

Duke's Phillip King picked up his first pro title at the USTA Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Classic. On his way to the title, Phillip upset No. 6 seed Julien Cassaigne, No. 2 Rohan Bopanna, No. 7 Ryan Sachire and No. 5 Bob Hodge.

The ITA Achievement Award, presented by Tennis Week, will be given this year to Jack Blanton. The award was created in 1994 to pay tribute to past participants in the world of college tennis who have achieved excellence in their chosen careers. Jack played for the University of Texas in the 1940s and then worked his way to President of Scurlock Oil. He is now the President of the Eddy Refining Company. The award will be presented at Tennis Week's US Open party.
