2002 USTA NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Francine Whu lived up to her number one seeding as she defeated fourth seeded Anna Edelman, 6-1,6-1, in the finals of the USTA National Open Championships at the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club. It was Francine's first national tournament win and she made it through the draw without ever dropping a set.

In the playoff for third and fourth place it was a close one as the number two seeded Nadejda Demidenko edged past number six Kristen Curtis, 7-6,6-4. The top four finishers were all New Yorkers enjoying the hometown support.

Tomorrow the doubles winners will be decided and the feed-in consolation will near the end.

Anna Edelman enjoyed second place since it was her first National final

Kristen Curtis and Nadejda Demidenko were the fourth and third place winners
