The ITA has announced The Fila Cup, a new program for collegiate tennis alumni. The first rounds will be held in Boca Raton, Florida on March 31st, with final rounds being played at the NASDAQ-100 Open. The event will include 32 men's and women's doubles teams. Participants must be at least 35 years old, and the combined age of each doubles team must be a minimum of 75 years old with at least one player per team a former college tennis player (both must have graduated from college). The winning teams' collegiate varsity tennis programs will receive a financial donation from Fila.

Slipper Rock University announced that it is cutting eight varsity sports, including tennis, beginning next fall.

Ken Skupski of LSU defeated Matic Omerzel of Georgia, 6-4,6-4, for the singles championship at the SEC Indoors. In doubles it was all Georgia in the final (to be played) with John Isner & Antonio Ruiz against Matic & Ricardo Gonzalez.

Stanford swept the titles at the Freeman Memorial Championship with Celia Durkin taking the singles and Alice Barnes & Anne Yelsey winning the doubles. Celia eliminated UCLA's Laura Gordon in the final while Arizona State's Kady Pooler & Roxanne Clark were the doubles finalists.

At the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, Matija Zgaga of Baylor was the singles winner after defeating Stanford's Matt Bruch, 6-2,4-6,7-5. Ytai Abougzir & Chris Westerhauf of Florida State took out Matt & James Pade for the doubles.

Mark Merklein, a four-time All-American at the University of Florida who also served as that school's Assistant Coach, has been hired as a National Coach for USTA Player Development. Mark replaces David DiLucia, a Notre Dame grad who is now coaching Lindsay Davenport.

Coaching Changes... Hofstra men's and women's coach Bill Gerdts has resigned after 14 years... Todd Doebler has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the men's team at Notre Dame.
