The USTA Futures event in Laguna Niguel, California, turned into a showcase for college talent. Texas A&M sophomore Lester Cook teamed with brother Jason, a former player for UCLA, to win the doubles title. The singles title went to Rajeev Ram, who is scheduled to join the Illinois team in January.

The ITA has inducted six women athletes into the Women's Hall of Fame. They are: Jeanne Arth (College of St. Catherine's), Pam Richmond Champagne (Arizona State), Laura DuPont (North Carolina), Betty Rosenquest Pratt & Nancy Corse Reed(Rollins), and Ann Valentine (BYU).

Notre Dame's Alicia Salas and Kelly Nelson both captured singles titles at the 15th Annual Eck Classic. Lara Burgarello and Missy Wright of Purdue took the doubles title.

At the Midwest Blast, Illinois' Tiffany Eklov was the singles winner with a 6-4,2-6,6-4 victory over teammate Liina Suurvarik. The doubles trophy went to Illinois' Brianna Knue and Leila Cehajic defeated Kandis Batiste and Brandi Watts of Minnesota in the final, 8-3

A new tour is being launched with opportunities for college players to earn ATP points. The Florida-Jamaica Wildcard Tour begins December 20th with the Delray Beach Futures. The Tour will be a series of 10 events that end in June 2003. The winner of each of the events will earn a wildcard into the next event of the Bell Caribbean Jamaica Futures Circuit.

Yale senior Prateek Tandon has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Prateek is the first tennis player at Yale to earn this honor.

Coaching Change... Bryan Getz has been named men's tennis coach at Miami. Coach Getz replaces Jay Berger, who resigned to accept a national coaching position with the USTA.
