Among those displaced by Hurricane Katrina were the members of the Tulane tennis teams. Those teams have enrolled in and play at Texas A&M.

William & Mary's teams, led by Louisiana native Megan Muth, have raised over $1,200 for victims of the hurricane through a car wash.

The world of college tennis mourned two players this past month. Lynn University player Aivaras Balzekas was killed in an automobile accident. The 23 year old had transferred to Lynn after a season at Auburn-Montgomery, where he was a member of the 2004 NAIA National Championship team. Also, former San Diego State player Dontia Haynes died from injuries sustained in a motorcyle accident.

Just before winning the singles title at the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's Indoor Championships, Georgia sophomore John Isner took the top honors at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships after downing Eric Claesson of Ole Miss in the finals, 6-4,6-4. Duke's Joey Atas & Jonathan Stokke were the Flight No. 1 doubles winners, while Christopher Rea of Ole Miss and Drew Bailey/Maciek Sykut took Flight No. 2 singles and doubles respectively.

Furman coach Paul Scarpa, who is now in his 40th year at that school, has been elected to the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame.

At the New Mexico Fall Invitational the Alabama-Tuscaloosa duo of Robin Stephenson & Ashley Bentley tied the school record for most wins as a doubles team. (They have since broken the record with eight more wins.)

The Purdue men swept the singles flights at the Boilemaker Invitational. The winners were Jarred Leibner (Gold), Eric Hodgman (Black), Matt Zollman (Silver) and P.J. Rose (White). Eric & P.J. also won the doubles in the Black flight. On the women's team, freshman Mallory Voelker made her collegiate debut by winning the Flight No. 4 singles at the Tennessee St. Mary's Classic.

New Clemson Assistant women's coach Darrell Jernigan had a welcomed visit to Flushing as the Tigers took home four of the titles at the NTC Women's Collegiate Invitational.

The following players prevailed in the finals of the 13th Annual William & Mary Invitational: Flight A Singles-Aurelija Miseviciute, Arkansas; Flight B Singles-Austin Smith, North Carolina; Flight C Singles-Viktoria Konstantinova, VCU; Flight D Singles-Meghan Wolfgram, Richmond; Flight E Singles-Ela Kaluder, Arkansas; Flight F Singles-Emmy Fritz-Krockow, William & Mary; Flight A Doubles-Olga Borisova/Marianna Yuferova, VCU; Flight B Doubles-Jessica Hubbard/Meghan Wolfgram, Richmond; and Flight C Doubles-Raluca Ciochina/Janet Comeno, UPenn.

Mississippi State took the top two flights at the Ole Miss Fall Classic when Renee Joseph defeated Audrey Bordeleau of Arkansas for the White title and Elna de Villiers eliminated teammate Tatiana Feit for the Silver. Elina then teamed with Polina Kokoulina for the Blue doubles.

Colin Purcell and Natalie Frazier of Georgia were the Most Valuable Player Award winners at the Thomasville Collegiate Invitational, a round robin event.

There was definitely a hometown advantage as the Wildcats claimed five titles at the UK Fall Invitational. Junior Kim Coventry led the pack with the Flight A win.

Coaching Changes: Former Bulldog Will Glenn is returning to Georgia as the new men's assistant coach... Penn State's head men's coach Jan Bortner has left that position to take over as the school's Director of Athletics... Wake Forest graduate David Loewenthal has come back to the Deacons as the volunteer assistant for the men's team.
